Land of Bridges and Port Wineries
The scallywag and I tagged along when my hubby was on a business trip and had a couple of days meandering around the city without agenda. We spent time hanging around the parks, climbed 240-steps to the top of the Clérigos Church where we had amazing views, rode our first vertical train, soared in a funicular, cruised the five locks of the Douro River, toured some wineries and tasted a lot of nice port! My son’s blue eyes were very popular with the pensioners waiting at bus stops and with shop clerks and waiters. Just about everybody we met made a fuss of them. It was late May and the weather was perfect. We found it to be an extremely friendly city filled with gorgeous food and wine and lots to see and do. I definitely recommend budgeting time to get lost and walk around. The little details–tiles, murals, verandas and flower boxes–spice up the landscape of bridges and churches and colourful rooftops.
