The border was forty minutes away. We’d go up to the Simplon Pass to cool down in the summer, shop in Lugano, play at Mount Tamara and Splash and Spa, hike in countless scenic parks, and even traveled to Basel to visit with my cousin a few times. Three important to know about Switzerland: 1) It’s awesome. 2) It’s expensive; prices can be as high as its mountain peaks. 3) Museums are free on the first Sunday of the month.
The Simplon Pass is where we’d go to escape the heat during the summer. Getting up into the higher altitude was revitalising and refreshing. We made the trek up quite a few times. We also went up to Zermat to see the Matterhorn.
Basel
Not far from the French border is the charming city of Basel.
Mount Tamaro
There are many thrills for the taking up on Mount Tamaro. The views alone are worth the ride up in the skycars. A long zip line, luges, and a forest adventure park are also on offer. Cows with bells gracefully graze the hills on top and try their luck on the playground. And even the rubbish nine are smiling. (See below) Switzerland has that effect on me too.
The Verzasca Dam
I bungee jumped in New Zealand many moons ago. I can’t imagine doing it now, especially down the side of a dam like this. I even felt watching the fearless adventure seekers was unnerving. But, on the other hand, the views were mighty!
