Backpacking with Baggage

Skye is a self-described Naughty Niece and this is a story about the very special treasure she sneakily unearthed, liberated, from the deepest, darkest storage jungle.

“My aunt was so quiet and prim that upon first discovering her travel journals, I could have easily assumed they had been part of an estate sale score. Something that had been hidden inside a false bottom of a travel trunk, maybe, that she’d bought because it had refinishing promise. Sourcing interesting furniture at estate sales was a tradition she shared with my grandmother. But I think they were more interested in the bonus swag—the forgotten things they found taped up in the underside of a drawer or that had slipped behind panels. Some items were deliberately hidden, others probably just lost. All forgotten. Granny found a real dillinger in a garter belt. It had a pearl handle and was a great conversation piece on her sideboard until somebody stole it at a big party. My aunt scored letters from the 1920s, gloves, a Victoria era coin purse, and an original Gone with the Wind poster.

She keeps these things on display in a nice cabinet. She keeps far more interesting things in the attic. Come along and see how I discovered them and why I can’t keep them to myself!”

— I’ve decided there isn’t enough room in the garden–in the sphere–for this story to grow and have therefore created another site.
